Misty is the youngest sister in her family. As her sisters take role as gym leaders and famous synchronized swimmers in Cerulean City, Misty is often the outcast of the family. Being the "tomboyish mermaid", she is often called the runt of the four sisters as she is not as feminine as the rest. She follows Ash on his journey as he owes her a bike after Pikachu destoyed it when running from the angry flock of Spearow. Despite Misty's angry attitude towards Ash, she develops a crush on him over the adventure, and characters witness this and tease them both.
